FIRE MITIGATION, EDUCATION, AND PREVENTION
Community Assistance
BLM's wildland fire Community Assistance (CA) program provides funding and expertise to a variety of organizations for fire mitigation, education, and prevention efforts. Hundreds of new partnerships have been built and grown with cooperating agencies, nongovernment organizations, and other stakeholders who continue to find innovative ways to work together to create fire adapted communities. The program is administered by District and State Fire Mitigation and Education Specialists who work with local and state partners to implement cross-boundary fuels treatments, develop Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs), and deliver fire prevention and education programs to the public.
Fire Investigation & Trespass
BLM's Fire Investigation and Trespass Program determines the cause and origin of human-caused wildfires and pursues cost recovery when evidence of legal liability exists. These investigations help inform fire prevention efforts aimed at reducing human caused fires and the threat and impact they pose to communities and natural resources.
