Drought & Water Availability

Submitting New Information to the Drought Page:

BLM offices can contribute to the drought-related information on the SPP by clicking on the “Submit New Material” text at the top of the drought page and completing the webform. The NDT will be responsible for quality control of the uploaded material and updating the official information displayed on the SPP including policy, scientific literature, BLM publications, other media, the table providing drought severity assessments and a table for drought tools and data.

Drought & Water Availability Assessment Guidelines

The Drought and & Water Availability assessment guidelines will assist BLM Offices in determining if drought and/or water availability are issues or concerns that will be analyzed further in the NEPA process for planning or implementation actions.

Drought Assessment Information

The BLM in collaboration with the Desert Research Institute (DRI) has developed web-based assessment tools that allow users to quickly process hydrologic, satellite, and climate data and to create maps and reports to track drought severity over time on BLM-managed lands.
