Rangeland Monitoring: Utilization Studies
Superceded by BLM Technical Reference 1734-03
Utilization data are important in evaluating the effects of grazing and browsing on specific areas of rangeland administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for livestock, wildlife, wild horse, and wild burro use. Utilization is generally expressed as a percentage of available forage weight or numbers of plants, twigs, etc., that have been consumed or destroyed. Utilization is expressed in terms of the current year's production removed. Permittees, lessess, other rangeland users, and interested parties should be consulted and encouraged to participate in the collection and use of utilization sata. (See Sections 2.2 through 2.4, Technical Reference 4400-1).
