Cultural Diversity and Adaptation: The Archaic, Anasazi, and Navajo Occupation of the Upper San Juan Basin

With the implementation of a research design and data recovery program encompassing much of the Navajo Reservoir District, the next five years of site mitigation will further expand our knowledge of the prehistory of this area, including Basketmaker, Pueblo, earliest Navajo, and historic Native American, Anglo, and Hispanic time periods. Sites in this region are significant, not just for the academic community, but also for Native people and visitors to the Four Corners area. In 1989, the Bureau of Land Management initiated a public outreach program entitled, "Adventures in the Past." One of its objectives is to enlist public support for the management, interpretation, and protection of cultural resources.
