USGS Ecosystem Science

Earth’s natural landscapes are dynamic and have undergone drastic changes that greatly affect our day-to-day lives. We need only look at the past 150 years to see how quickly things can change. Ecosystem science—the study of how plants, animals, and other organisms interact with their environment and the consequences of natural and human-induced change on these systems—is necessary to support informed decisions about how to best manage wildlife and the landscapes they depend on.
