This first revision makes this a Bureau of Land Management Technical Note incorporating minor changes such as the use of the Greek alphabet symbols in place of English alphabet letters and the correction of typographical errors. The surveyor should have the Manual of Surveying Instructions,1973, available. The 1971 Bureau of Land Management Ephemeris of the Sun , Polaris and Other Selected Stars is included as part of this technical note. Those surveyors who have a more intense interest in the subject are referred to the book Practical Astronomy by Hosmer and Robbins, 4th edition, Wiley.
