In recent years there has been increased interest in the use of prescribed burning for habitat improvement for livestock and wildlife. This has proven to be a highly successful, economical, and "natural" means of increasing forage production and habitat diversity into the sagebrush and pinyon-juniper ecosystem. Before any attempt to initiate a prescribed burning program is made, it is important that land managers determine the long-term objectives of burning as well as the impacts on the environment. Fortunately, there is an abundant source of information covering this subject which facilitates the manager's task. This paper provides sources for a number of reports, symposiums, and research projects conducted on areas where prescribed burning has taken place.
