The Common Raven

This Technical Note has been prepared to give a better understanding of this bird [raven], not so much for its unique place in history and legend, as for its role in living systems and its relationship to raptors and other important wildlife. It frequently competes directly for food with several species of raptors, often killing small rodents to eat and robbing eggs and young from other birds' nests. On the other hand, its nests are, often used by owls and other raptors as their own platforms, without which they might be unable to nest in some areas.

The raven is a complicated species, with many complex interrelationships with other wildlife and with man. It is hoped that this publication will provide an insight into its life, habits, and both the beneficial and adverse influences on the lives of various kinds of wildlife and on man.
