This Technical Reference describes technical considerations and procedures for acquisition and use of aerial photography for riparian area inventory and monitoring. Pre planning is crucial and considerations such as area selection, season and time of day to fly, film type and scale of photography are discussed. Also discussed are, when to begin the initial paperwork, specifications, and flight map preparations, leading to the procurement of aerial photography. Optional methods for the procurement are presented. Options for performing the analysis and step-by-step analysis procedures are described. Items are presented that should be considered prior to analysis, photo preparation, photo interpretation, and procurement of re-photography for monitoring. Variables that can be monitored are addressed.
