National Environmental Policy Act of 1969

42 U.S.C. 4321
Policy Type:
Legislation
Other authorities, such as the National Environmental Policy Act, require scientific investigation and consultation before implementing BLM actions, while some legislation requires performing scientific tasks on specific topics (e.g., inventory and monitoring of archaeological resources).

Section 102(2)(A): The Congress authorizes and directs that, to the fullest extent possible all agencies of the Federal Government shall utilize a systematic, interdisciplinary approach which will insure the integrated use of the natural and social sciences and the environmental design arts in planning and in decisionmaking which may have an impact on man’s environment.
